About Lightweight Backpacking.
Started back in 1998 when my back and
knees were beginning to show their age under heavy loads. I figured
there had to be a better way, and sure enough I stumbled across the
concepts of Ultralight backpacking. In the years since it's been a real
treat to hear from folks who've shaved off the pounds, some now
traveling ultralight and some not, but all lighter and happier. Best of
all are the people who had given up backpacking due to health problems
preventing them from carrying heavy loads, but now write to say that
thanks to ultralight techniques they are actually able to get into the
backcountry again!
If you engage in backpacking, at some
point, you may consider packing a lighter load. That consideration was
the main reason that Backpacking Lightweight was created in 1996,
and it continues to be its primary focus. Since then, however, the
Lightweight Backpacking & Hiking website has grown to include a vast
repository of resources useful for year-round backcountry safety &
enjoyment. While it is true that Backpacking Lightweight promotes
ultralight backpacking & hiking, featuring lightweight backpacking
equipment, it is a also a proven resource.
How about a 17 pound pack for a weekend trip? A 24
pound pack for a one week trip? At these pack weights, backpacking feels
more like day hiking. It's hard to describe how freeing this is until
you experience it. The trail miles melt away. Without the misery of a
heavy pack you can actually appreciate the beauty of the land you're
hiking through. You get into camp early, with plenty of time and energy
to do almost anything. I believe that you can take everything you need
to be safe and warm for around 12 pounds for pack and equipment (I carry
around 8-9 pounds. If you add around 1.75 pounds of food per day, you
have a 24 pound pack for a seven day trip and a 17 pound pack for a
weekend, 3 days and 2 nights.
Ultralight backpacking lets you
bag that fourteener with your pack on - it weighs less than two gallons
of water! Descend by any route, because you didn't leave behind a heavy
backpack. That's freedom.
Sling your lightweight backpack
from one shoulder to let your back cool as you hike. Go sixteen miles
without blisters, because your light load doesn't require hot, heavy
boots. That's comfort.
Lightweight backpacking,
fastpacking, ultralight backpacking - whatever you call it - it gives
you more freedom and comfort. (Need more convincing?
Bushwhack Adventures came about as
a way to promote adventure racing in central North Carolina. What better
way to promote the sport than by organizing adventure races?!
Bushwhack Adventures strives to provide events
that are navigationally challenging, fun to participate in, and
affordable for more people. An emphasis will be placed on the co-ed
3-person team format, as well as events longer than sprint-length.
However, format flexibility and shorter courses will also be offered in
order to make events more accessible to new adventure racers.
Bushwhack Adventures was
born from an experiential learning teambuild program developed by the
CIS Group of Companies. The significance of the name is entrenched in
our endeavor to create a feeling of belonging and teamwork during our
adventures. Like the painted dog, portrayed in our logo, we are a bunch
of highly sociable creatures and enjoy the co-operation of all our
adventurers
No longer must one try to decipher the
deranged mutterings of a victim of jungle warfare. A person needs only
to apply the appropriate brush ratings to relate his brutal experience
to others.
At Bushwhacker, they do what we sell.

Vernon County decided, a few decades ago,
to revive and make something of, at least to acknowledge if not
necessarily celebrate, the memory of its Confederate / Bushwhacker
heritage, once very much alive, though it had been allowed to fade away
with the generation that knew it at first hand.
The Bushwhacker Climbing Club is a
non-profit organization created by Pacific Northwest area climbers. The
Bushwhacker community has been hiking, climbing and socializing together
for years, and in 2003 we created a club.
At Bushwhacker, all they make are bags:
hydration bags, seat wedges, panniers, handlebar bags ... all kinds of
bags. They believe their bags are the finest bags available. Providing
premium bags is their business. Their only focus. They reviewed the
competition, then they gathered the very best materials and craftsmen
and made their bags better and stronger.
